He had a land in the cool hills of Kenscoff where he opened a Bed and Breakfast, Aux Cosaques in 1929. Maurice would have his children take on chores from a young age in the B&B, from filling up oil lamps, to helping out with cleaning linens – everybody was involved. The passion for hosting and accommodating was passed on to his two sons who went on to open two restaurants in Port-au-Prince; our father Max found Le Rond Point in Bicentenaire, and uncle Jean, Aux Cosaques in Chemin des Dalles.

As the economy shifted from downtown to Pétion-Ville, Le Rond Point closed but our father continued to invest. He built a 9-room hotel, Kinam Hotel in Pétion-Ville’s main square, Place Saint-Pierre. In 1985, the hotel was remodeled with gingerbread-style architecture and expanded to 36 rooms. Shorlty after, the 3rd generation took over the daily operations and management of Kinam Hotel. In 2008, the 87-room Karibe Hotel and Convention Center opened its doors and underwent an expansion of 100 rooms in 2014. Simultaneously, the new Kinam Hotel wing was inaugurated with an additional 85 rooms. Finally, Servotel, a convenient 66-room hotel made of steel and recycled containers, received its first guests in November 2011 as the first of its kind in Haiti and is now run by our children, the 4th generation.

We are proud of our heritage and will continue to invest in this beloved country of ours.
